Carl L. Pitts was born on January 21, 1922. He was the son of Henry Lee Pitts and Velma Hopkins Pitts. Carl served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on November 17, 1944 and is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
