Floyd Cecil Goudy was born on June 8, 1922 in Sterling, Rice County, Kansas. He was the son of William Goudy and Dora Ellender Thornbury Goudy. Floyd entered the service with the Sterling National Guard and trained at Camp Robinson, Arkansas, Camp San Luis Obispo, California, Camp Hood, Texas and Camp Polk, Louisiana, before going overseas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in the 635th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He is thought to have participated in the D-Day landing and fought through France. He was Killed in Action on September 29, 1944 in Germany and is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
