Bennett A. Recknagelwas born on March 31, 1922 in Walworth County, Wisconsin. He attended rural schools in Darien and Richmond townships and was graduated from Darien high school in 1940. Up to the time of his induction into the army he was engaged in farming with his father. He entered the army Nov. 20, 1942, and received his basic training at Camp Roberts, California, and was later transferred to Camp Shenago, Greenville, Pa. From there, he went overseas to North Africa where he served with the First Infantry division. In July, 1943, he went to Sicily and later to England. He took part in the invasion of Normandy, Belgium and Germany. He was killed in action Sept. 13, 1944, at the time that the First army was breaking through the Siegfried Line. He is now buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, Delavan, Walworth County, Wisconsin, USA.
