William Vernon “Bill” Smithson was born on March 25, 1922. He was the son of T. Vernon Smithson and Beulah Mack Duke Smithson. He enlisted in the Army on October 1, 1942 in Tennessee.William served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on November 24, 1944 at the age of 22 and is now buried in Mount Juliet Memorial Gardens, Mount Juliet, Wilson County, Tennessee, USA.
