Harry Donald Proffitt was born on January 30, 1924 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa. He was the son of Hillus Dee Proffitt and Joy Elaine Lindsay Proffitt. Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company L, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on December 1, 1944 in Germany at the age of 20 and is now buried in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA.
