Arthur E. Swarthout was born on July 14, 1926 in Michigan. He was the son of Harold Arthur and Margaret Evelyn Swarthout. (His Army records read 1925 but he lied in order to be able to enlist.) He enlisted in the Army on October 13, 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in Company I, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on November 19, 1944 in Germany at the age of 19 and is now buried in Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, Oakland County, Michigan, USA.
