Robert Earl Underwood, Jr. was born on July 17, 1920 in Youngsville, Franklin County, North Carolina. He was the son of Robert Earl Underwood and Rosa May Liles Underwood. Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on November 17, 1944 in Germany at the age of 24 and is now buried in Eastview Cemetery, Wadesboro, Anson County, North Carolina, USA.
