When Corey James Spencer was born on January 27, 1884 in Canada, his father, Thomas, was 23 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 23. He married Mettie Emma Webb in 1913. He then married Marion Fisher Campbell and they had one daughter together. Corey was a naturalized US citizen and served in the US Army during World War I. He died in the American Hospital in Neuilly on December 4, 1950 at the age of 66 and was buried in the American Legion Mausoleum just west of Paris.
