Colella, Luigi (DI EUSTACCHIO): Born Venafro on Oct 10, 1896. Served as a soldier in the 212th Infantry Regiment and was killed in combat on 9 August 1916 near New Gorizia (Present day Slovenia) during the Sixth Battle of the Isonzo. Colella, Luigi is a soldier listed on the Ceppegna marker who were all born in or near Ceppegna-Venafro and immigrated to the United States. When Italy entered World War 1 in May of 1915, these men returned to fight in the Italian army and were killed during the course of the war. Colella, Luigi was killed while fighting on the Italian-Austrian front. Research continues to better identify who the soldiers were, where they were killed, and who placed the plaque, but this is what we have to date from Italian sources.
