Charles J. Alfano was born in 1922 in Alsip, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Alex Alfano and Bertha Alfano. He was the B-17 ball turret gunner assigned to the 388th BG, 563rd BS during World War II. He was Killed in Action on October 15, 1944 flying aboard 44-6472 and is now buried in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Cook County, Illinois, USA. Charles was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
