Charles Ray Bissell was born on March 30, 1923 in Centralia, Lewis County, Washington. He was the son of Wendell Earl Bissell and Merna Amelia Scott Bissell. He served in the US Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. Charles died on August 16, 1944 in Germany and is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in a common grave with his crew. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
