Leonard W. Bond was born on April 17, 1921. He was the son of Wilbur G. Bond and Erma Bensinger Bond. Leonard graduated from the Rodney B. Wilson high school in St. Johns with the class of 1939 and spent three years at Michigan State College prior to joining the Army Air forces in April of 1943. He was commissioned as a bombardier in August of 1944 and had been overseas October 1944. Bond was killed on December 10, 1944 when his plane crashed over Scotland. He is now buried in the Mount Rest Cemetery, Saint Johns, Clinton County, Michigan, USA. Lt. Bond was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
