Clyde Harell Bryant was born on May 6, 1920. He served in the 562nd Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. Clyde was one of nine crew members who perished on 8 June 1944 when a fire ignited a bomb aboard their B-17 Flying Super Fortress bomber, "Double Trouble," causing a midair explosion over England. Initially interred in the squadron's cemetery near Cambridge, England, their remains were subsequently returned to the U.S., buried in a commong grave with his crew in the Nashville National Cemetery, Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA. He is now buried in the Nashville National Cemetery, Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA. 2Lt Bryant was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
