Claude Dee Dearmond was born on April 17, 1923 in Angelina County, Texas. He attended Zavalla High school and entered the Army in 1942, trained at Kessler Field, Mississippi. Claude served in the 563rd Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Sergeant and waist gunner on 42-31103 "Pegasus II" on during World War II. He was Killed in Action on March 23, 1944 in Germany at the age of 20 and is now buried in the Zavalla Cemetery, Zavalla, Angelina County, Texas, USA. Sgt Dearmond was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
