Donald LeRoy Dennis was born on July 23, 1923. He served in the 560th Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of B-17G #43-37635 "Captain Jim" aircraft during World War II. When their plane was shot down, he and his crew were able to bail out. The other 8 men aboard were taken to POW camps but he was caught near Düsseldorf by German civilians who killed him using pitchforks and clubs and possibly set dogs on him also. 1Lt Dennis is now buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale), Glendale, Los Angeles County, California, USA. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
