James R. Douglas was born on January 25, 1924 in Monett, Barry County, Missouri. He was the son of Robert Eugene Douglas and Beulah Madge Douglas. He lived in Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma before enlisting in the USAAF as a Private on October 27, 1942. SSgt Douglas was a B17 tail gunner who died when his plane was shot down on a mission over Cognac, France on December 5, 1943. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
