Richard R. Evans was born on June 6, 1924. He was the son of Miller George Evans and Ella Margie Shultz Evans. He served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Staff Sergeant and waist gunner on #42-31336 aircraft during World War II. A member of the Tolles crew, he was declared "Missing in Action" on February 10, 1944 and is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom. He also has a cenotaph located in Quarryville Cemetery, Quarryville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Ssgt Evans was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
