George William Hornaday was born on June 12, 1919 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Thomas Hornaday and Belle J. Morris Hornaday. He was a graduate of Hisch Hidh School and attended Knox College. George served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of #42-31209 "Janie BB" aircraft during World War II. A member of the Bianchi crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on January 30, 1944 over Germany. He is now buried in the Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA. 2Lt Hornaday was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
