Vernon Francis Klenk was born on June 5, 1918. He served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator of #42-31336 aircraft during World War II. A member of the Tolles crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on February 10, 1944. He was Missing in Action and is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom. He also has a cenotaph located in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Technical Sergeant Klenk was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
