Walter H. Malaniak entered the military service in Michigan. He served in the 560th Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of #42-30851 "Little Boy Blue" aircraft during World War II. He was Killed in Action but was declared "Missing" on July 19, 1944 and is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom. 2Lt Malaniak was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
