Charles Allen Manchester, Jr. was born on October 21, 1921 in Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York. He was the son of Charles Allen and Marjorie Bolger Manchester. He served in the 560th Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a 560th Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy. Charles died from bleeding to death on 30 November 1944 during the Lutzendorf mission. He was hit in the leg by flak just before bombs away and the crew was unable to stop the bleeding. He is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
