T/Sgt McFadden was born in Australia and moved to the U.S.A. when he was young. His father was Irish and his mother was Australian. He enlisted in San Francisco, California on 2 April 1943. He served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Radio Operator of #44-6611 aircraft during World War II. T/Sgt McFadden was shot down on 10 April 1945 and taken prisoner of war. The plane took part in Operation 'Revival': the repatriation of POW's out of Russian occupied zones. He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
