John Francis "Mickey" McMenamin, Jr. was born on February 25, 1918 in Pennsylvania. He enlisted on 29 January 1942 at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland. He served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of #44-8313 "Lady Anne" aircraft during World War II. A member of the Esselmeyer crew, he was Killed in Action when their plane crashed on November 5, 1944. He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. 2Lt McMenamin was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
