William Lewis Morris was born on February 3, 1920 in Michigan. He was the son of George Washington Morris and Jennie Maria Hoskins Morris. William served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner of #42-30837 "Ole Bassar" aircraft during World War II. A member of the Todd crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on December 5, 1943 in France. He is now buried in the Mill Springs National Cemetery, Nancy, Pulaski County, Kentucky, USA. SSgt Morris was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
