Lester Earl Paup was born on May 9, 1922 in Greene County, Iowa. He was the son of Earl E. Paup and Sadie Kolp Paup. Lester served in the 560th Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner of #42-31020 "Mission Belle" aircraft during World War II. A member of the Hughes crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on December 11, 1943. He is now buried in the Scranton Township Cemetery, Scranton, Greene County, Iowa, USA. Sgt Paup was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
