Frank Charles "Buck" Pilato entered the military service in New York. He served in the 560th Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator of #42-31149 "My Day" aircraft during World War II. A member of the Comella crew, their plane ditched in English Channel after receiving battle damage during a bombing raid on Ludwigshafen, Germany on December 30, 1943. Frank was Missing in Action and is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
