Thomas Joseph Scanlon was born in 1910 in New York. He served in the 563rd Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of #42-5907 "Wing and a Prayer" aircraft during World War II. A member of the Fuller crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on July 25, 1943. Their plane was attacked by German fighters and on the flight back to England and crashed into the North Sea killing all onboard. 2Lt Scanlon was Missing in Action and is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
