Ernest James Senter was born on December 28, 1920. He was the son of Charles E. Senter and Edna Bedell Senter. He served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group (Heavy), as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of aircraft during World War II. 1st Lieutenant Senter was Killed In Action piloting the B-17G-95-BO Flying Fortress #43-38845 when it was shot down by fighters. Struck by machine gun fire causing fires in the radio room, five crew escaped before the bomber exploded before it reached it's target area of Hamburg, Germany. 5 members were KIA, 5 were POW's. Ernest is now buried in the Greenbush Cemetery, East Greenbush, Rensselaer County, New York, USA. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
