Floyd Walker Smith was born on January 21, 1921 in Chico, Wise County, Texas. He was the son of Robert E. Smith and Etta Lou Strange Smith. He served in the 562nd Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group (Heavy), as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator of #42-30317 "Second Chance" aircraft during World War II. A member of the McCown crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on November 26, 1943. He is now buried in the Chico Cemetery, Chico, Wise County, Texas, USA. Tsgt Smith was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
