Rupert Garland Smith was born on May 28, 1919 in Oklahoma. He served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group (Heavy), as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner of #42-38177 "Shack Rabbits" aircraft during World War II. Rupert was Killed in Action on March 6, 1944. He is now buried in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Muskogee County, Oklahoma, USA. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
