August F. Suhay, Jr. entered the military service in New York. He served in the 563rd Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group (Heavy), as a Staff Sergeant and tail gunner of #42-30234 aircraft during World War II. A member of the MillerL crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on September 6, 1943. The plane took off from Knettishall, England with an assigned target of Stuttgart, Germany. Left formation for unknown reasons and crashed near Mesnil-Soullieres, about 7 miles east of Troyes at 1230hrs. 7 were Killed in Action, 3 were taken as POW's. SSght Suhay is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
