Robert Warren Wilson was born on April 22, 1921. He was the son of Floyd Roslyn Wilson and Charlotte Ellen Simons Wilson. He served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group (Heavy), as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of #43-38845 aircraft during World War II. 2nd Lieutenant Wilson was Killed In Action aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-17G-95-BO Flying Fortress when it was shot down by fighters. Struck by machine gun fire causing fires in the radio room, five crew escaped before the bomber exploded before it reached it's target area of Hamburg, Germany. Five crew were killed, and five taken as POW's. 2Lt Wilson is now buried in the West Side District Cemetery, Taft, Kern County, California, USA. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
