William J. Dellapenta was born in 1925. He was the son of Joseph F. DellaPenta and Maria T. Cordileone DellaPenta. He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war. William served as a Private, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army during World War II.
The 501st PIR dropped into Holland on September 17, 1944 as part of Operation Market Garden. In October, they were engaged near Heteren, 14 miles north of Nijmegan and 8 miles west of Arnhem. In early November, they were located on an island just below Arnhem between the Neder and Rhine Rivers.
William was "Killed In Action" on November 6, 1944. He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
