Joseph J. Cerra was born on December 24, 1921 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Joseph Xaviar Cerra and Philomena E. Leo Cerra. Joseph served in Company H, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 27, 1944 at the age of 22, defending the village of Eerde, The Netherlands against German forces and is now buried in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Carbondale, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, USA.
