Comments:

J. B. Allenbrand was born on March 1, 1920 in Missouri. He was married to Nancy Sue Showers Rainey. According to the commanding officer of his division, the aircraft which Lieut. Allenbrand was piloting, was severely damaged by flak over the target area. Proceeding from the target, Allenbrand ordered the other crew members to bail out while he controlled the plane. The heavy ship was losing altitude rapidly and when he attempted to bail out after all the other crew members were out, there was not sufficient altitude to allow his parachute to open. A short time before his last flight, Allenbrand had been assigned to the 386th Bombardment Group popularly known as the “Crusaders” which had been awarded the Presidential citation for outstanding performance in bombing enemy targets. 2Lt Allenbrand is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.
