Richard A. Borrell entered the military service in New Jersey. He served in the 555th Bomber Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, Medium, as a First Lieutenant during World War II. Richard was Killed in Action on October 13, 1944 as a bombardier of a B-26 aircraft which took off from Beaumont-sur-Oise, France. The 386 BG target that day was the marshaling yards at Dillingen/Saar, Germany. Lt Borrell was most probably killed by a flak fragment. The pilot managed to bring back the aircraft to base.
