Herman Joseph “Herm” Roth, Jr. was born on April 27, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He resided in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania prior to the war. Herman served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-26 #42-96220, 555th Bomber Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, U.S. Army during World War II.

B-26 #42-96220 took off from Beaumont-Sir-Oise, France on a bombing mission over Hengelo marshalling Yard, Netherlands. They were hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed near Eleve, Netherlands during the war. Herman was "Killed In Action" in this crash. He is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in the same grave with 1LT Brundage and 1LT Marrin.
