John William Shute, Jr. was born on November 25, 1923, in Kinston, North Carolina. He was the son of John William and Katherine Taylor Shute. He served in the 553rd Bomber Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, Medium, as a Lieutenant during World War II. He was killed on March 9, 1945 while they were flying out of the Persan/Beaumont Airfield in Bernes sur Oise, France during WWII. He is now buried in the Westview Cemetery, Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina, USA. His name is commemorated on a monument located at Bernes-sur-Oise, France, but his surname is spelled Schute.
