Edward H. Kirchoff entered the military service in Illinois. He served in Company K, 138th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division as a Mechanic during World War I. He was declared "Missing in Action" on September 28, 1918 during the liberation of Vauquois, France and is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
