A white marble inscribed plaque with gold lettering about 3 ft by 2 ft.

 

The plaque remembers the dead of Company K,138th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division who died in the fighting around Vauquois in September 1918 during the initial phases Meuse-Argonne offensive. The 35thInfantry Division liberated the town of Vauquois on September 26, 1918.  Vauquois was a hilltop town with great strategic importance which witnessed after years of intense fighting, much of it “mine warfare”. 

 

The plaque was dedicated in 1973 by fellow members of Company K.
