Elmer Fred Bredenbeck was born on November 25, 1895. He was one of the 138th Infantry Regiment (Company K) soldiers who survived in the battle for Vauquois, France liberation in September 1918. In July 1973, with his fellow survivors, they dedicated a plaque for their comrades who were killed in that battle which is located inside the town church of Vauquois. Elmer died on December 25, 1982 at the age of 87 in St. Charles, Missouri. He is now buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Saint Charles, St. Charles County, Missouri, USA.
