Derek Armitage Lee was born on November 10, 1911 in Englewood, New Jersey. He joined the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve and was commissioned on April 10, 1941. He served on HMS Ferret (RN base, Londonderry), HMS Sardonyx (destroyer), HMS Braithwaite (frigate), HMS Saker (British Admiralty Delegation, Washington, USA) from 1941 to 1945. He also served as a Commanding Officer in the (British) Commando Operational Maritime Unit attached to OSS in India-Burma Theatre. Derek died on April 11, 1985 in Manhattan, New York.
