Matthew Crawford was born on August 11, 1918, in Scotland. He served in the 363rd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. 1LT Crawford failed to return from an escort mission in Ruhland, Germany aboard P-51D #44-15161 'Joyce Diane'. The plane was strafing locos and flatbed trucks loaded with road transports then was hit by flak causing the plane to crash near Creuzburg, Germany. 1LT Crawford was Killed in Action on March 2, 1945, at the age of 26, and is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France.
