Kenneth M. Smithey was born on July 4, 1921. He served in the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was taken as a prisoner in the Battle of The Bulge and died January 2, 1945, at the age of 23. PFC Smithey was initially buried in the Gerolstein town cemetery in Germany. His final resting place is in the Bayview Cemetery, Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington, USA.
