Gaylord Wallas Strong was born on November 15, 1917 in Garfield, Minnesota. He was the son of Herbert Lee Strong and Lena Regina Swenson Strong. He served in the 83rd Squadron, 437th Troop Carrier Group as a First Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of the C-47 Skytrain #42-100877 during World War II. He died the next day in a the US Army Hospital at Burderop Park, England, from serious injuries after they attempted to retrieve a Horsa glider that had broken free in a practice mission on March 11, 1944. 1LT Strong is buried now in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
