Charles Henry Tuttle was born on December 24, 1923 in Lawrence County, Ohio. He was the son of Henry Lonzo Tuttle and Ruie (Ruperta) Fritz Tuttle. He served in the 364th Bomber Squadron, 305th Bomb Group (Heavy), based at Chelveston, Northamptonshire, as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner of the B-17 #42-31322 "Mi Amigo" during World War II. On 22 February 1944, the heavily damaged USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft Mi Amigo was returning from a bombing mission over Aalborg, Denmark, where it had been attacked by enemy fighter aircraft. Around 5 pm, engines faltering, it emerged out of low clouds and crashed in the park. The entire crew perished.

SGT Tuttle is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
