Flight Officer Raymond E. King Plaque -479th Fighter Group

Raymond Earl King was born on October 15, 1923. He grew up in North Braddock, Pennsylvania. In 1940, at the age of 16, he was living with his father Harry King, a policeman at steelworks, his mother Margaret, and his older brother, Harold King.
Raymond was Killed in Action (KIA) on January 13, 1945, when his P-51D Mustang (serial number 44-14574), nicknamed 'Little Zippie,' suffered mechanical difficulties and crashed into the sea near Clacton, Essex.
The plane was recovered in 1987 and is on display at the East Essex Aviation Society museum.
He has a memorial marker at the Monongahela Cemetery, North Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA.
