Ingebrigt Arnold Apold was born on October 10, 1905, in the municipality of Arna, Haus (now a borough of Bergen) in the county of Hordaland, Norway. His parents were John I. Apold and Aasa F. Eitrheim, both of Odda, Hordaland. He went to a horticultural school and later worked as a gardener in Gaugua, Haus until he traveled to the United States in 1927. He continued to work as a gardener in the USA and eventually had his nursery. He volunteered for the 99th Infantry Battalion (Separate) and was assigned to Company A. Private First Class Apold was killed in action on September 27, 1944, in Belgium. He was initially buried in Lahklaar, Belgium, and in 1949, his remains were returned to Arna, Norway, for reburial.
