Edmund John Greenwood was born on July 1, 1908, in Winfield, Wisconsin. He was the son of Giles Forest Greenwood and Meta Mary Wagner Greenwood.

Edmund enlisted in the Army on March 24, 1942, in Madison, Wisconsin. He served in Company F, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Corporal during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 35 in France. Cpl Greenwood is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
