Francis Jerald Higdon was born on September 7, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of Hezekiah Hiram Higdon and Emma Grace Cain Higdon.

Francis enlisted in the Army on November 14, 1942, in Indianapolis. His civilian occupation at enlistment was as a draftsman. He served in Company G, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 7, 1944, at the age of 21 in France. PFC Higdon is now buried in the Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA.
